Christmas stop over- Cake Boss

A quick Christmas stop over in Hoboken NJ was fun for us and a surprise for Symeon.  We realized on the drive from PA to CT that we would drive really close to Carlo's Bakery.  In case you don't know Carlos Bakery is the bakery belonging to Cake Boss who has a show TLC.  He bakes these amazing cakes and plays pranks on his family who help run the bakery.  Symeon and I started watching this show together if he was up late and couldn't sleep and now it is one of our favorites.  I bought him a kid cake decorating kit for Christmas because he loves the show and baking so much.  He has asked for a Cake Boss birthday party so we will see what I can do with that request.

When we arrived at the bakery we had heard the line is pretty long so we didn't want to get his hopes up and we also knew that Buddy was not there thanks to Twitter.  We really didn't think we would see him even if he was there but you never know.  Well as we were driving by Symeon's face lit up and he said there it is Mom  Cake Boss, are we going there?  I didn't know if he would recognize the outside of the shop since it is not shown that often in the show but I was wrong he recognized it and was so excited.  We finally found a parking spot and when we walked up he was smiling ear to ear.  We asked about the line which looked short in front of the shop but we were told it was a  3 hour wait to get in and the line stretched several blocks and was managed by paid people.  I asked the guy if it was always like that and he said yup.  I was a bit shocked and when I told Symeon we couldn't wait for 3 hours out in the cold to get in he looked up at me and said Mom I would wait 16 hours to see Cake Boss.  Deep down I wanted to wait but once I told him Cake Boss wasn't there he seemed okay seeing it from the outside.  We held him up to the window so he could see in and he was able to see some of the sisters who work in the front.  It was funny he recognized them.  Marin was into it as well although she claims not to like Cake Boss.  When we walked back to our car we saw the alley behind the shop where they do some of their pranks and he was cracking up when he said look Babes that is where Cake Boss does his pranks and they were both laughing.  He might have been just as excited to see the alley as the front of the shop.

Overall it was really fun and we are so glad we stopped.   We told him maybe when the weather is nicer we can wait in line.  I have honestly thought about contacting TLC or Cake Boss himself and letting them know how much he loves the show and baking.  Here are some fun pictures of us outside with some of the other spectators who didn't want to wait in line.
