I love Denver winters

One thing I love about Denver winter is that every so often you are thrown this amazing day or few days and you have a reprieve from snow and cold weather.  Well this weekend we had some of those days and they were amazing, mid 60's.  The kids were out back in tee shirts, we went for long walks around the neighborhood, and we went to our favorite spot the zoo. I will remember these days when on Tuesday and Wednesday when it is suppose to be -3 for the high hey it is winter so the kids and I will find some fun indoor activities, probably bake a bit to keep warm, and do a few Valentine Day crafts to decorate the house. Ahh Denver winters I love them.

My little sleep walker

Well I thought it would happen but not quite this soon and that is sleep walking.  Several times I have found Symeon standing in the hall crying or in the middle of his room and I know he was not crying long enough to get out of his bed to his location before I heard him.  So I had suspected he was sleep walking some which I did most of my childhood and even into college so I wasn't to worried.  Well the other night our housemates sister was sleeping in our living room and she heard something.  She thought it was the furnace at first so she didn't pay attention but the noise kept going so she rollled over and there was Symeon laying on the kitchen floor moving his feet so his whole body was going in circles.  When she went up to him she said he did not have a clue what was going on os she said she was going to take him downstairs to which he said no and so she said do you want a blanket and he said  yes.  but then she though I might wake up and look for him so she said let's go ask your Mom about that and she brought him downstairs and put him in his bed.  Well by this time he was pretty awake and he started to cry for me.  When I entered his room he was wide awake and I kept thinking how long has he been awake in here.  It took a little time to calm him down and then he went back to sleep.  In the morning she said does Symeon sleep walk and I said I think he does and then she told me the story.  I have been a little more nervous with him at night but since then he has stayed put in his bed.  I dread the day he is standing next to my bed and scares me to death like I did to my Mom on more than one occasion.

Wait you are not 16 yet

Ok so the other day we were at Shawn's hockey game and Marin began to walk away from me and I said Marin stop and wait for Mommy.  She turned on her heels and although she did stop she put both her hands on her hips and tilted her head like she was being inconvenienced by me.  I looked at her and started laughing as did another woman in the stands at the game and I thought oh my gosh fast forward 15 years and that look and attitude will get you grounded but for now it cracks me up, within reason.  She has used this gesture many times over the last few days.  It is not always with an attitude sometimes she is just standing and waiting and every time I laugh because she is just so little.  I will try to catch it on camera while it is still really cute.

Hide and Seek

Hide and Seek has become one the favorite games at our house.  They finally understand the hiding and counting at least Symeon does and Marin will follow his lead so she is catching on as well.  Here is one of the favorite hiding spots the other is the broom closet which Symeon will often request you hide in there when it is his turn to count.  They are super cute when they hide together squealing with laughter the entire time.

A mischievous squeal

The other day I heard a mischievous squeal coming from our living room and I walked in to see two partners in crime each with a remote control.  Now mind you Marin is not to have remote controls because she bites off the buttons and Symeon is not to have them because he messes up the TV and turns it up so loud it scares me to death.  On this day they had gotten their hands on the remotes and were hovering together as if there is safety in numbers when it comes to a Mama retrieving the forbidden.

A little love during one of our illnesses

I went upstairs for a few minutes and when I came down I found Babes feeding Symeon.  He was not feeling well at all and I had given up trying to get him to eat a little soup so when I came down and found him slurping up every spoonful Marin fed him I had to laugh.  I guess he just needed a little more empathy than what I was able to offer at that moment but which Marin had in surplus.  They were so sweet him saying thank you Babes and her smiling and feeding him.  When he was done he said thanks Babes my belly is full I don't want any more soup.

Happy New Year

We had a quite New Year at home with a few friends over for good food and games.  Overall it was a fun, relaxing night and although I made it to midnight I was in bed shortly after the clock struck 12.  We were just coming off the horrible stomach flu and to many late night holding sick kids and cleaning up messes had taken it's toll on this Mama.

Here is a picture of one cute couple who really does not look that bad for what we had been through for the previous 10 days.

Another happy Daddy moment

Symeon watching the Phish show in New York City on New Year's Eve.  He watched a good portion of the concert and asked for more the next night.

Our first big snow

I realize we live in Denver but honestly we have had very little snow.  This is our first big shovel worthy snow and Symeon could not wait to get out and shovel.  He was a huge help and we had lots of fun with snowballs.

Here he is enjoying a nice warm cup of Hot Coco after shoveling.  We did discover that although he loves chocolate he is not a fan of hot chocolate except for the whip cream.

Father and Son

Enjoying a little Soccer while eating, they both loved it!

I hope this is not a picture into his future...

I don't mind the Fireman part it is the lack of pants and the hand placement in a Fireman costume that has me worried.

A beautiful everyday moment

I was struck with such awe for my daughter the other morning when we were eating breakfast together.  She was just doing her thing and I was watching her and I was overwhelmed with her beauty and love of life, her intoxicating laugh, her smile, the beautiful treasure she is and the awesome responsibility and privilege of being her Mother.  Oh if every meal could be this good with kids!

Babes McGee

Ok so I have been wanting to do a bit post on Marin since her 18 month check up which was several days before we moved and that threw a curve ball in my plan so although I am a bit late I still want to do a big post giving our dear sweet girl a big shout of love and praise.  She is such a blessing in our family with her sweet hugs which squeeze you around your neck, her kisses which she just started giving, and the dear way she says thank you whenever you do anything for her or give her anything.  She smiles often and laughs a deep belly laugh that you can't help but join in with when she is doing it.

She is in the 75% for her weight and the 97% for her height.  She is talking a ton and even if she does not know a word she will babble an entire sentence throwing in all the words she knows until you figure it out.  I have lost track of how many words she knows because she adds new ones everyday.  Yesterday she verbally asked for my hand rather than just grabbing it to lead me to what she wanted it was so sweet and fun to hear her use a new word.  She is a ball of energy and runs almost everywhere she goes.  She loves to keep up with Symeon which can be challenging for us all but also such fun.

She is a bit obsessed with poop but that might be because Symeon is potty training.  She will sit on the potty every time he does yet she will get off the potty and pee on the floor so the connection is not there although the heart is willing and ready.  I am sure she will potty train very early if she holds true to her patterns thus far.  She loves babies and carries around 3 or 4 at a time.  She likes them all in her bed every night which often leaves very little room for her.  She uses the word mine almost like a swear word claiming just about everything she can get her hands on.  She told off a big kid at the zoo and told off some other kids at the playground she even put her hand palm up toward this older man yelling mine because she believed he wanted her jacket.  Luckily I don't think he could hear well and he thought she was saying hi rather than mine and he waved and smiled.  I on the other hand have perfect hearing and told her for the 50th time probably that day she was being fresh and no one wanted her jacket.

Babes is strong willed and determined and she prefers to do everything her self.  I love these traits about her and encourage them but it is also our job to keep them in check and that can bring about some battles.  She has thrown herself down more in public than Symeon ever did or has in his almost 3 years.  She began saying NO at 15  months and has not slowed up since.  She is a biter which is very tricky for me since she is my first one and poor Symeon is the only child she has bitten to date and I pray it stays that way.  She walks with attitude and everything about her is so darn cute we can barely stand it.

She has recently started letting me do her hair and she prefers two pig tails to one pony tail.  She will leave them in all day and she is adorable.  Her favorite number is 2 and her favorite color is blue just ask her and she will tell you.  Babes loves to eat and continues to put down the food.  She is losing some baby fat as she is growing although she continues to have a great belly that blows up when she eats.  The other night at dinner she had 3 pieces of pizza now that's my girl.  She loves all fruit and most veggies and I just found out she loves Taziki dip on carrots much like her Mama.  She also loves to mix things up and climbs on everything.  She climbed out of her crib at 19 months and now gets out whenever she feels like it which has presented some challenges especially when her brother encourages her to climb out every chance he gets.

She adores her Daddy and calls for him often in the middle of night if she wakes up.  She brings him a banana every morning in his office and always goes in to say good morning to him and give him some good morning loves.  She loves to brush her teeth and she loves to nap, bedtime is not her favorite but she is not to difficult.  She is a light sleeper but usually only wakes up when she is cutting teeth or not feeling well.  She has all her 1 year molars, 4 top teeth and two bottom and two weeks ago she cut 4 teeth all at one time giving her 6 top and 4 bottom.

So I could go on and on about this beautiful child.  She is delightful in every way and we are so blessed to have her in our family.  We love you Babes McGee.

Babes loves to lick any sort of yummy off her plate

 A halloween costume change up

 Oh that sweet smile

I caught her climbing out of her crib and it was interesting to see her agility and strength

Having fun pretending to go nun nights with her Daddy.  They were both so cute!

I hope they always have time to talk to each other like this no matter how old Babes is I pray she will always adore her Daddy I know he will always adore her.

I often find Babes watching her little show like this I guess she is lounging!

Here is one of those throw down fits I mentioned above.

Blue her favorite color and her favorite M&M I found a blue trail on our walls from this one blue M&M she had.

One of the many things she climbs on and jumps off of on a daily basis.  She actually stood up there and watched a program for quite some time.

Croup a trip ender at least for now

Well we have had another hard time with illness in Denver, both kids have had Croup and it has been terrible.  Multiple sleepless nights for Mom and Dad one ER trip and a doctor's visit still leaves us with fevers, grumpy kids who do not feel well, and one worried and frustrated Mama.  It is viral so it just has to run its course so we will see.  We were scheduled to fly to CT this past week and  be there for 10 days but the kids were so sick there is no way they could get on a plane so here we sit house bound for the past week a bit stir crazy and ready to have healthy kids again.  We only had one good week between the stomach flu epidemic and this Croup epidemic so I am hoping we have seen our share of illness and will sail through the rest of the winter yah I know at least I can hope.  So this explains my lack of posting and really very little pictures that I have taken over the past few weeks.  I pray all of you and your families are doing well during this winter season and all of our CT friends and family we hope to see you really soon.

Symeon and a few hard days

Symeon has had a few hard days of pushing boundaries in any way he can find but instead of posting on the challenges I have decided to tell two funny stories about this sweet little guy.  I could recount every hard moment but really it is my ministry to parent him and teaching him is what I am suppose to do so I guess we have had lots of teachable moments the last few days and it is good to learn.

So tonight I am going to the bathroom and Symeon says he would like a snack.  I tell him I will gladly get him his snack when I am done using the potty.  He waits patiently by the door and when I am finished I proceed to wash my hands, turn off the light etc. to which he responds to me "I am losing my patience" I cracked up mostly because it was a phase I have said often over the last few days and it was funny to hear it out of his mouth instead of mine.

The other day we were driving in the car and Marin was trying to get her arms out of her car seat straps and she was crying because she couldn't free herself.  I told her that she had to stay in her seat for safety and Symeon proceeded to tell her it was not safe to get out of her seat in the car and here is the funny part his reason.  "Babes McGee if you get out of your seat you could fall out of the car in the road and a car would squish your head and the tires would get stuck in your hair, right Mom?"  Well yes a bit shocked thinking where in the world does he come up with this stuff.  Babes accepted it without protest and we drove on but I was cracking up inside.

Today I was putting Symeon in his car seat and he was giving me a hard time kind of twisting around and overall making it a difficult process so knowing he has a few rough days you can imagine one more fight was not in me and I snapped at him.  I used a harsh tone and some words I probably should not have used (not swear words or anything just harsh words that were a bit of an overreaction to the situation.)  I blame sleep deprivation because part of his hard days have been difficulty going to bed which has never been an issue for Symeon. So the next thing Symeon says is Mommy stop using those fresh words and stop talking like that.  He stopped me dead in my tracks because I say this to him not to use fresh words when talking to me or anyone.  Oh to hear my own words coming back at me, I apologized to him because I was out of line and often we went for a super fun afternoon as a family.

So all in all we end our week on a high note lots of family fun, two sleeping kids, and two parents in bed.  Nice!

Merry Christmas

Our Christmas week was very eventful in that the stomach flu swept through our house like the plague.  It started with Marin on Monday night and it lasted a really long time I am just starting to feel like myself this week about 10 days after being really sick.  Symeon was the sickest on Wednesday, me on Thursday, Shawn on Christmas night and our housemate all day on Christmas.  We were able to enjoy the holiday despite some really long nights and some really gross clean up.  Christmas Eve we had a great meal which everyone was able to enjoy and Christmas morning we were all fine during the gift opening but all the hours before and after those times were rough.  I went and had a flu shot about 3 weeks ago and the nurse was saying everyone had the stomach flu in her house one Christmas and I though oh that would be terrible little did I know I was about to find out what it would be like.  We were glad we were not traveling during Christmas week we were home which is really the best place to be when you don't feel well.  So here are the highlights of our Christmas minus all the gross stuff!

Christmas Eve

Denise making Christmas Eve dinner it was wonderful

 Decorating sugar cookies

Shawn reading The Night Before Christmas before bed

 The kids looking for Santa
The cookies we left for Santa and the kids decided he might need water rather than milk.
The Christmas tree after Santa came

Christmas Day

Babes McGee up early waiting for her brother so why not start the day with a Christmas cookie.  She did bit the kiss off multiple cookies before I caught her.

When it came time to open presents they would open one and play for a long time and then open another it was quite a long time of present opening which was such fun.

Symeon's new tool set was quite a hit.  He fixed just about everything he could drill.  Mr Steve would be so proud.  He needed these at Paxton Street Home.

Symeon did so well keeping the gift he bought Shawn a surprise until he handed him the gift and said here Daddy I got you slippers.  It was so sweet and he was so excited to give gifts which warms a Mama's heart.

Babes "bought" Symeon this Fireman Sam tee shirt and I think his face tells you how much he loved this gift.  Now he has at least one other shirt he loves as much as his Li'l Kickers uniform.

Christmas day evening was spent with most of us in bed or laying down because we were all still pretty sick.  Shawn and Denise were the worst and the rest of just had upset stomachs but it was pretty relaxed.  I actually never got dressed which is a first for Christmas.  If we hadn't been so sick it would have been great.  We did play alot and talked to all our family back East.  It was a blessed holiday and I am so grateful for all our blessings.  We still have one more Christmas in CT in January that we are all looking forward to.
